About me

Hi, my name’s Ryan. I’m 32 years old and I’m the operations engineer at Pinterest, an online pinboard where you can organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web.

I grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa and have a sister who now lives with her husband in Las Vegas. I love to visit Las Vegas, though I can only afford to spend a few days at a time there!

I moved to California in 2006 after living in the Washington, D.C. area for 9 years. When I lived in Washington, I attended The George Washington University as an undergrad and then worked in Washington for a few years as a computer software developer. I moved to California in 2006 to get a master’s degree in Computer Science at Stanford University, studying Human-Computer Interaction. Since then I’ve also worked for PBworks and Amazon.com.

Actually, I really like music — mostly rock music. I own a Roland keyboard and a Roland electronic drum set, but I have to keep the drumming quiet to appease my neighbors. Some of my favorite artists include Rush, Dream Theater, Kevin Gilbert, Porcupine Tree, and Laughing Colors. If you want to know more about my musical tastes, you can see my personal music profile which summarizes what I’ve been listening to recently on iTunes and my iPod.

I’ve taken up running recently, and actually enjoy it quite a bit! I generally run about 3 mile/5K distances, though I ran the Wharf to Wharf 10K in Santa Cruz last year. I’d love to meet some new running partners in Mountain View or Palo Alto.

I used to be a big hockey fan, rooting for the Washington Capitals and now the San Jose Sharks.

That’s all for now. What else would you like to know?
